Hindi Grammar Questions and Answers – HTET PGT 2012-13 Paper
“Hindi grammar questions and answers” is usually a search for one specific thing: not a lecture on grammar theory, just the question, the correct option, and enough reasoning to see why the other three are wrong. That’s what this page is built around, eight questions from the HTET Level 3 (PGT) 2012-13 paper’s Hindi section, with the logic behind each answer laid out below the quiz rather than left for you to guess at.
Attempt the Quiz First
Try to answer without looking ahead. The explanations that follow are more useful once you’ve committed to an answer and can compare your reasoning against what’s actually being tested.

Answers and Reasoning
рд░рд╛рдЬрди рдХрд╛ рд╕реНрддреНрд░реАрд▓рд┐рдВрдЧ рд╣реИ: рд░рд╛рдЬреНрдЮреАред Not рд░рд╛рдиреА. рд░рд╛рдиреА is the general word for “queen,” but рд░рд╛рдЬреНрдЮреА is specifically the feminine form of рд░рд╛рдЬрдиреН (king) as a grammatical rule, the kind of distinction that separates a vocabulary question from a grammar one.
‘рдв’ рд╡рд░реНрдг рдХрд╛ рдЙрдЪреНрдЪрд╛рд░рдг рд╕реНрдерд╛рди: рдореВрд░реНрдзрд╛ред The entire рдЯ-рд╡рд░реНрдЧ (рдЯ, рда, рдб, рдв, рдг) is articulated at the рдореВрд░реНрдзрд╛ (roof of the mouth, behind the ridge). If you know one member of the рд╡рд░реНрдЧ, you know the рдЙрдЪреНрдЪрд╛рд░рдг рд╕реНрдерд╛рди for all five, which makes this a rule worth memorising once rather than word by word.
‘рд╕реНрд╡рд╛рдореА рд╡рд┐рд╡реЗрдХрд╛рдирдВрдж рдиреЗ рд╕рднрд╛ рдореЗрдВ рдЙрдкрджреЗрд╢ рджрд┐рдпрд╛’: рдХрд░реНрддреГрд╡рд╛рдЪреНрдп (active voice). The subject (рд╡рд┐рд╡реЗрдХрд╛рдирдВрдж) performs the action directly. It becomes рдХрд░реНрдорд╡рд╛рдЪреНрдп only if the sentence were restructured around the object receiving the action, “рдЙрдкрджреЗрд╢ рджрд┐рдпрд╛ рдЧрдпрд╛ред”
‘рдмрдВрджрд░’ рдХрд╛ рдкрд░реНрдпрд╛рдпрд╡рд╛рдЪреА рдирд╣реАрдВ рд╣реИ: рд╢рдХреНрд░ред рд╣рд░рд┐, рдорд░реНрдХрдЯ, and рд╢рд╛рдЦрд╛рдореГрдЧ are all genuine synonyms for рдмрдВрджрд░. рд╢рдХреНрд░ means рдЗрдиреНрджреНрд░, a completely different word that only sounds like it might belong in this set.
‘рдЕрдиреБ’ рдЙрдкрд╕рд░реНрдЧ рд╕реЗ рдирд╣реАрдВ рдмрдирд╛: рдЕрдиреВрдард╛ред рдЕрдиреБрдЧрд╛рдореА, рдЕрдиреБрдкрд╛рдд, and рдЕрдиреБрдХрд░рдг are all built by adding рдЕрдиреБ to a root. рдЕрдиреВрдард╛ is a standalone word (meaning unique or unparalleled) where рдЕрдиреН isn’t functioning as the same рдЙрдкрд╕рд░реНрдЧ, which is exactly the kind of near-miss HTET tests for.
‘рди рдЕрдВрдзреЗ рдХреЛ рдиреНрдпреЛрддрддреЗ рди рджреЛ рдЬрдиреЗ рдЖрддреЗ’ рдХрд╛ рдЕрд░реНрде: рди рдРрд╕рд╛ рдХрд╛рд░реНрдп рдХрд░рддреЗ рди рдореБрд╕реАрдмрдд рдЦрдбрд╝реА рд╣реЛрддреАред The lokokti is about avoiding a problem at the source rather than dealing with its consequences later.
‘рдЖрднреНрдпрдиреНрддрд░’ рдХрд╛ рд╡рд┐рд▓реЛрдо: рдмрд╛рд╣реНрдпред рдЖрднреНрдпрдиреНрддрд░ means internal or inward-facing, and рдмрд╛рд╣реНрдп is the direct opposite, external. рдЕрдВрддрд░ and рднреАрддрд░ are close in meaning to рдЖрднреНрдпрдиреНрддрд░ itself, not its opposite, which is why they’re there as distractors.
‘рдЖрджрд░’ рд╕реЗ рд╡рд┐рд╢реЗрд╖рдг: рдЖрджрд░рдгреАрдпред рдЖрджрд░рдкреВрд░реНрд╡рдХ is an adverb (describing how something is done), not an adjective. рдЖрджрд░рдгреАрдп, meaning “worthy of respect,” is the correct рд╡рд┐рд╢реЗрд╖рдг form.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these official HTET answers, or worked out independently?
The questions and options are from the actual 2012-13 HTET Level 3 Hindi paper. The reasoning given for each answer is independent analysis based on standard Hindi grammar rules, since HTET doesn’t publish detailed answer explanations alongside its papers.
Why do some of these answers feel counterintuitive?
Because the distractors are built to sound plausible. рд░рд╛рдЬрди/рд░рд╛рдиреА and рдЖрднреНрдпрдиреНрддрд░/рдЕрдВрддрд░ are both cases where the “obvious” answer is close in meaning but grammatically wrong, which is a deliberate exam-writing technique, not a trick unique to this set.
Is memorising these eight answers useful for the actual exam?
Only marginally, since the exact words won’t repeat. What transfers is the pattern: рд╡рд░реНрдЧ-based рдЙрдЪреНрдЪрд╛рд░рдг rules, рдЙрдкрд╕рд░реНрдЧ versus standalone words that look like they have one, рд╡рд╛рдЪреНрдп identification from sentence structure. Learn the pattern, not the specific answer.
Where can I find more questions like these?
Two companion sets on this site pull from the 2011 and 2013 HTET Hindi papers, covering different specific words but the same question categories.
