HTET PRT Old Sample Paper 2023 – HTET Previous Year Question Paper 2023
There is one HTET PRT paper for 2023. Not one per subject, not one per district. One.
That single paper and its answer key are below. Level 1 has no subject specialisation, so every candidate sitting for classes I to V wrote the same questions on the same afternoon. Every paper on this page is part of the HTET previous year solved question papers 2023 with answer keys collection, which holds all three levels in one place.

| Level | Question Paper | Answer Key |
|---|---|---|
| Common (Level 1) | Download Paper | Download Key |
If you came here expecting a list of subject papers, that expectation comes from the TGT and PGT levels, where 12 and 21 papers exist. Level 1 genuinely has one.
Who Level 1 is for
Level 1 qualifies you to teach classes I to V as a Primary Teacher. The route usually runs through senior secondary with a D.El.Ed or equivalent primary teacher training, and a graduate with B.Ed may also be eligible depending on the notification in force. Confirm against the current HTET eligibility criteria page before you apply.
How the PRT paper is built
Level 1 is where the paper genuinely differs from the other two. There is no 60-mark subject section. That weight moves into Mathematics and Environmental Studies instead.
| Part of the paper | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Child Development and Pedagogy | 30 | 30 |
| Hindi (15) and English (15) | 30 | 30 |
| Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Haryana GK (10 each) | 30 | 30 |
| Mathematics | 30 | 30 |
| Environmental Studies | 30 | 30 |
| Total | 150 | 150 |
Five sections of 30, which is a friendlier shape than it looks. No single section can sink you the way a bad 60-mark subject section sinks a PGT candidate, and no single section can carry you either. Consistency across all five beats brilliance in one.
Worth saying plainly: the Mathematics here is primary level, and candidates from an arts background talk themselves out of these 30 marks before they have looked at a single question. The arithmetic in the 2023 paper is the arithmetic you would teach a class V student. Open it before you decide it is beyond you.
Getting value out of a single paper
One paper is a real constraint, so do not burn it. Sit it once, cold, under full time, and do not read the key beforehand. A paper you have already skimmed gives you an inflated score and no information.
- Sit all 150 questions in 150 minutes, in one go.
- Score five separate numbers, one per section, against the answer key.
- Work on the lowest two for a month, then sit an older PRT paper rather than repeating this one straight away.
- Come back to the 2023 paper last, close to your exam, as a final check rather than as practice.
When you need more Level 1 material, the TGT and PGT papers still give you fresh questions for pedagogy, the languages and general studies, which is 90 of your 150 marks. Only their Mathematics and EVS content will not apply.

HTET PRT 2023 paper: common questions
Why is there only one PRT paper when TGT has 12?
Primary teachers at Level 1 teach across subjects rather than specialising, so BSEH sets one common paper covering pedagogy, languages, general studies, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. The subject-wise split only begins at Level 2.
One paper is not enough practice. What else can I use?
Work backwards through earlier years for Level 1, and borrow the shared sections from TGT and PGT papers of the same year. Pedagogy, Hindi, English, reasoning, arithmetic and Haryana GK are common to all three levels, which is 90 of your 150 marks and by far the largest pool of extra questions available to you.
I am from an arts background and the Mathematics section worries me.
It is primary-level arithmetic, not competitive-exam quantitative aptitude. Score that section of the 2023 paper before deciding it is a weakness, because a lot of candidates discover they are at 22 or 24 out of 30 already and have been budgeting study time against a problem they do not have.
Does clearing Level 1 let me teach classes VI to VIII later?
No. Each level certifies you for its own class range, so Level 1 covers classes I to V only. Teaching VI to VIII needs Level 2, which is a separate paper with its own eligibility. Many candidates sit more than one level in the same cycle for exactly this reason.
Is the PRT qualification valid forever?
Yes, HTET qualification is valid for life. It establishes eligibility to apply for Haryana government teaching posts and does not expire, though it is not an appointment on its own.
