HTET TGT Hindi Syllabus 2026 Subject-wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Eligibility

HTET TGT Hindi Syllabus 2026 Subject-wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Eligibility

Most TGT Hindi candidates prepare grammar rules and think that this will cover the paper. It doesn’t.

The 60-mark subject-specific section begins with a full history-of-language-and-literature component before moving on to grammar and poetics—देवनागरी लिपि का इतिहास (history of the Devanagari script), हिन्दी साहित्य का इतिहास (history of Hindi literature), and its literary movements.

Candidates who revise only संधि-समास-अलंकार and skip the history section keep losing marks they never expected to lose.

This guide covers the HTET TGT Hindi syllabus exactly as BSEH has structured it, along with the exam weightage and the eligibility conditions specific to this paper.

Common Syllabus for HTET TGT (Child Development, Languages, General Studies)

These three sections are common to all the TGT subjects and carry 90 marks out of 150.

Child Development and Pedagogy

Covers the psychology of teaching and learning for the 11-16 age group — development and its relationship with learning, the influence of heredity and environment, socialisation, and the perspectives of Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky. It also includes child-centred education, the construct of intelligence, gender as a social construct, individual learner differences, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), inclusive education, and how children think, learn and make errors in the learning process.

Languages — Hindi and English

Each carries 15 marks: one unseen passage tested for comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability, combined with the pedagogy of language development. Note this common Language I (Hindi) section tests general proficiency only — it’s separate from, and much lighter than, the subject-specific Hindi section below.

General Studies — Haryana GK, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude

Haryana GK (10 marks) covers state history, current affairs, geography and welfare schemes. Reasoning (10 marks) spans verbal and non-verbal types. Quantitative Aptitude (10 marks) covers number systems, percentages, interest, mensuration and data representation.

HTET TGT Hindi: Subject-Specific Syllabus

The 60-mark section is organised into three parts.

हिन्दी भाषा एवं साहित्य का इतिहास (History of Hindi Language and Literature)

This part covers the various forms of the language and its constitutional status, the history of the Hindi language, the history of the Devanagari script along with its scientific basis and characteristics, and the history of Hindi literature — including its periodisation, nomenclature and the different literary movements (प्रवृत्तियाँ) that shaped it.

माध्यमिक स्तरीय एवं पाठ्यक्रम में संकलित रचनाओं की जानकारी (Secondary-Level Prescribed Texts)

Questions based on the prose and poetry compiled in the Basant textbooks, Parts 1, 2 and 3 (बसंत भाग-1, 2 एवं 3) — the theme, language and style of the prescribed poems, and the content and various dimensions of the prescribed prose pieces. This section also covers पर्यायवाची (synonyms), विलोम (antonyms), अनेकार्थक शब्द (words with multiple meanings), and one-word substitutions for phrases, all drawn from the prescribed syllabus.

काव्यशास्त्र एवं व्याकरण (Poetics and Grammar)

Poetic qualities and defects (काव्य गुण एवं काव्य दोष). Figures of speech (अलंकार)— उपमा, रूपक, उत्प्रेक्षा, वक्रोक्ति, श्लेष, अतिशयोक्ति, असंगति and दृष्टांत. Metrical forms (छंद) — दोहा, रोला, हरिगीतिका, मालिनी, कवित्त, सवैया and वंशस्थ. Rasa theory and its components (रस एवं रस के अवयव).

On the grammar side: वर्ण विचार (classification of vowels and consonants by place and manner of articulation), शब्द विचार (तत्सम, तद्भव, देशज and विदेशी शब्द), संधि, समास, उपसर्ग and प्रत्यय, विकारी शब्द (संज्ञा, सर्वनाम, विशेषण, क्रिया) and अविकारी शब्द, वाक्य एवं पद विचार (sentence correctness), मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियाँ (idioms and proverbs), and शुद्ध-अशुद्ध शब्द एवं वर्तनी (correct and incorrect spelling).

Of the three parts, Poetics and Grammar is the densest, but also the most rule-based, and therefore the most scoreable with systematic revision. The History of Hindi Language and Literature section is given equal structural importance and is often under-revised for the very reason that it sounds like background material rather than testable material — BSEH’s own paper pattern says otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the History of Hindi Language and Literature section tested as heavily as Grammar?

Both are in the same 60 mark subject-specific section with no published internal split so neither can be safely treated as secondary – candidates that only focus on grammar often find the history and literature questions are where they lose the most avoidable marks.

Which textbooks should I prepare the literature portion from?

The prescribed texts are the Basant series, Parts 1, 2 and 3 (बसंत भाग-1, 2 एवं 3) used in the BSEH Class 6-10 curriculum and not a generic NCERT Hindi reading list.

Is Sanskrit knowledge required for TGT Hindi eligibility?

Not precisely for the subject eligibility but you need to have Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric (or Hindi at a higher level) as a distinct, independent eligibility requirement.

Does TGT Hindi grammar overlap with the common Language I (Hindi) section?

There’s some conceptualoverlap in basic grammar but the subject specific section goes quite a bit deeper covering metrical forms, rasa theory and figures of speech that the common Language-I section doesn’t touch at all.

The History of Hindi Language and Literature is important. Don’t consider it as a background reading but as a revision block. It is tested with as much seriousness as the grammar rules that usually get all the attention.
