What Actually Happened With HTET 2026 (Full Timeline)
BSEH released the HTET 2026 notification on 24 December 2025, and the application window ran from that day until 5 January 2026. So far, routine. The exam itself is where things got messy.
It was first scheduled for 13 and 14 June 2026. That date slipped to 4 and 5 July 2026, and the Level 3 (PGT) paper actually went ahead on 4 July at centres across the state. Two days later, on 6 July 2026, Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala raised a set of specific allegations about that PGT paper: broken seals on question-paper packets at some centres in Rewari and Charkhi Dadri, OMR sheets with mismatched serial numbers against the question papers, a few candidates issued the wrong subject paper entirely (Economics instead of English, in one case), and a missing passage covering questions 141 to 150 in at least one paper set.
BSEH’s response was to deny that the exam had been compromised, explain that opening extra packets at a centre is standard procedure and doesn’t by itself mean a leak, and invite candidates to formally submit objections about the printing errors for expert review. No official order cancelling the 4 July paper was issued in the aftermath — but BSEH also didn’t let the matter rest quietly. By late July, the board had confirmed a fresh, board-managed exam schedule: 21 and 22 November 2026, covering all three levels.
Why does that matter to you right now, in October? Because if you sat the 4 July paper and you’re still waiting for a result that never came, you’re not missing something — nobody’s result came through for that sitting at scale. The exam that counts is the one on 21–22 November. Treat the July paper as void and prepare for November as if it’s your first attempt this cycle. (This kind of postponement isn’t new for HTET, by the way — the HTET 2025 cycle also got pushed twice before it was finally conducted, so if this feels chaotic, it’s roughly consistent with how the last cycle went too.)
A fair warning: exam-prep aggregators across the web are citing three different versions of this timeline, some still showing the original June dates as current. We’ve cross-checked the sequence above against multiple independent news reports of the Surjewala allegations and BSEH’s public response. Treat 21–22 November 2026 as the operative date, but always confirm your specific admit card against bseh.org.in before exam day.

What Is HTET, in Plain Terms
HTET is the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test, run by BSEH to certify who’s allowed to teach in a government or recognised private school in the state. It isn’t a recruitment exam — clearing it doesn’t hand you a job. It hands you a lifetime-valid certificate that makes you eligible to apply when Haryana’s School Education Department actually advertises PRT, TGT, or PGT vacancies. Three levels, three very different candidate pools:
- Level 1 (PRT) — Primary Teacher, Classes I–V
- Level 2 (TGT) — Trained Graduate Teacher, Classes VI–VIII
- Level 3 (PGT) — Post Graduate Teacher, Classes IX–XII
You can sit for more than one level in the same cycle if your qualifications allow it — the three papers run on different dates or shifts specifically so that’s possible. For the older HTET 2025 and HTET 2024 cycles, including what changed between them, see our HTET 2025 syllabus and exam pattern page and the HTET 2024 notification archive.
HTET Eligibility Criteria 2026 (Level-Wise)
Each level has its own minimum qualification, and BSEH is strict about matching your certificates to the level you’ve applied for — there’s no flexibility here once you’ve submitted the form.
Level 1 — Primary Teacher (PRT / Classes 1 to 5)
Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks, plus a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), or a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), as recognised by NCTE.
Level 2 — Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT / Classes 6 to 8)
A Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com, in the subject you intend to teach) with at least 50% marks, plus a B.Ed. A D.El.Ed is accepted as an alternate route in some notifications — check your specific subject’s requirement on the official bulletin, since this is one of the details BSEH tightens or loosens between cycles.
Level 3 — Post Graduate Teacher (PGT / Classes 9 to 12)
A Post-Graduation degree in the subject you want to teach, with at least 50% marks, plus a B.Ed.
Mandatory Common Requirement — All Levels
You need Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject at Matric (Class 10) level or higher, regardless of which level you’re applying for. This one trips up a surprising number of candidates who have every other qualification sorted and then realise their school-leaving certificate doesn’t show Hindi or Sanskrit anywhere.
On the age limit: HTET itself, being an eligibility test rather than a direct recruitment exam, generally has no fixed upper age cap for sitting it — age criteria of the usual 18–42 range (with relaxations) apply later, when you actually use your HTET certificate to apply for a specific teaching post. For the full level-wise breakdown of age relaxations and every accepted qualification pathway, including edge cases this summary doesn’t cover, see our HTET Teacher Age Limit & Eligibility Guide and the cluster page on HTET 2026 Eligibility Criteria.
Documents You’ll Actually Need to Scan
Keep these ready before you sit down to fill the form, not after — it’s the single biggest cause of a rushed, error-filled application: Class 10 certificate (the name-spelling authority for every other document), your qualifying degree or diploma marksheet, category certificate if you’re claiming reservation, a recent passport-size photograph on a plain background, and a signature scanned on white paper, not typed. BSEH is specific about file size and dimensions for the photo and signature upload — oversized files are the most common reason a form submission fails silently and has to be redone.
Which Level Should You Actually Apply For?
This sounds obvious until you’re the candidate with a B.Ed and a postgraduate degree, eligible for both TGT and PGT, wondering which to prioritise. A rough rule: PGT posts pay more and sit higher in the school hierarchy, but they’re also more competitive because every postgraduate with a B.Ed in your subject is eligible for the same pool.
TGT vacancies tend to open more often simply because there are more middle-school sections than senior-secondary ones across Haryana’s government schools. If your qualifications allow both, there’s no rule stopping you from appearing for both levels in the same cycle — the shifts are scheduled on different dates specifically so that’s possible. The only real cost is prep time split two ways instead of one, so be honest with yourself about how much runway you have before 21 November.
HTET 2026 Application Process & Fees
The application window for this cycle closed on 5 January 2026, so the steps below are mainly for reference — and useful if you’re planning ahead for the next notification.
How Candidates Applied for HTET 2026
- Visit the official application portal — bseh.org.in or htet.eapplynow.com.
- Register using a valid mobile number and email address.
- Fill the form carefully, matching every detail to your Class 10 certificate exactly — names, dates, spellings.
- Upload a scanned photograph, signature, and thumb impression in the specified format and size.
- Pay the category-wise application fee online and save the confirmation page.
- Watch for the correction window — it’s your only chance to fix a typo before the admit card is generated.
HTET 2026 Application Fee Structure
| HTET 2026 Application Fee | |
| Category | One / Two / Three Levels |
| SC / PH (Haryana Domicile) | ₹500 / ₹900 / ₹1,200 |
| All Other Candidates | ₹1,000 / ₹1,800 / ₹2,400 |
For a full walkthrough of the registration flow, screenshots, and what to do if a payment fails mid-transaction, see HTET 2026 Application Form and HTET 2026 Application Fee.
HTET Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme 2026
Every level is a 150-question, 150-mark, purely objective paper, to be completed in 2.5 hours. One mark per correct answer, no negative marking — so there’s no reason to leave a question blank.
Level 1 (PRT) Pattern
| HTET PRT (Level 1) Exam Pattern | |
| Subject | Marks |
| Child Development & Pedagogy | 30 |
| Language I – Hindi | 15 |
| Language II – English | 15 |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 10 |
| Reasoning | 10 |
| Haryana GK | 10 |
| Mathematics | 30 |
| Environmental Studies | 30 |
| Total | 150 |
Level 2 (TGT) & Level 3 (PGT) Pattern
| HTET TGT (Level 2) & PGT (Level 3) Exam Pattern | |
| Subject | Marks |
| Child Development & Pedagogy | 30 |
| Language I – Hindi | 15 |
| Language II – English | 15 |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 10 |
| Reasoning | 10 |
| Haryana GK | 10 |
| Subject-Specific (Your Teaching Subject) | 60 |
| Total | 150 |
The Child Development & Pedagogy, Hindi, English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, and Haryana GK portions are identical at every level — it’s only the last 60 marks (your teaching subject) that changes between PRT, TGT, and PGT, and TGT/PGT share the same structure. The full level-wise paper pattern, including shift timings and OMR instructions, is on HTET 2026 Exam Pattern.
HTET Qualifying Marks and Certificate Validity
General category candidates need 60% to qualify — that’s 90 out of 150. Haryana-domicile SC and PH (differently abled) candidates qualify at 55%, or 82 marks. A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks applies to SC, BC, and PH candidates of Haryana domicile more broadly; the exact cut-off varies slightly by category and whether you’re a Haryana domicile or not, so check your specific bracket on the HTET 2026 Cut-off / Qualifying Marks page rather than assuming.
Once you clear it, your HTET certificate is valid for a lifetime under current BSEH policy — no renewal, no re-appearing at a given level once you’ve passed it. Full process for downloading and verifying your certificate is on HTET 2026 Certificate.
HTET 2026 Syllabus — Level-Wise and Subject-Wise
The Child Development & Pedagogy, Language, Reasoning, and Haryana GK sections cover identical ground no matter which subject you teach, so most of your prep time should go toward the subject paper specific to your level. HTET Previous Year Exam Papers & Answer Keys
Nothing tells you more about an exam than the actual papers it’s used before. We keep two separate sets: a combined all-levels archive with answer keys for quick revision, and level-specific old sample papers going back to 2019 if you want to time yourself on a full PRT, TGT, or PGT paper. All links open in a new tab.

Admit Card, Answer Key & Result — What Comes Next
With the exam fixed for 21–22 November 2026, admit cards are expected roughly four days before, around 17 November 2026 — BSEH hasn’t published an exact date at the time of writing, and given this cycle’s track record, we’d treat “expected” as exactly that until it’s live. Three things to do the moment it drops:
- Download it immediately and check your name, roll number, exam centre, and photograph for errors — corrections this late in the process are a hassle, so catch them early.
- Print at least two copies; most centres won’t admit you on a phone screen alone.
- Note your reporting time — it’s usually an hour before the shift start, not the exam start time itself.
Full download steps and exam-day document checklist: HTET 2026 Admit Card. Once the exam is done, the provisional answer key and objection window typically follow within two to three weeks, covered on HTET 2026 Answer Key, and the result and scorecard process is on HTET 2026 Result. Given the objections already raised over the 4 July paper, it’s worth watching the answer-key objection window closely this cycle rather than assuming it’ll be routine.

HTET 2026 vs HTET 2025 — What’s Actually Different
Structurally, almost nothing changed — 150 questions, 150 marks, 2.5 hours, no negative marking, same eligibility rules. What’s different is the process around it. The HTET 2025 cycle was postponed from its original December 2024 dates to July 2025 for administrative reasons, no controversy attached. HTET 2026 was postponed too (June to July), but this time a sitting MP publicly alleged specific, checkable irregularities in the PGT paper, and BSEH responded by taking direct control of the re-conducted exam rather than leaving the July 4 result to stand. If you cleared HTET 2025 or sat the older HTET 2024 cycle, your certificate is unaffected either way — lifetime validity doesn’t reset because a later cycle had problems.
Common Mistakes Candidates Make With HTET 2026
A few patterns show up year after year in the objections and grievances BSEH receives, and almost all of them are avoidable.
- Applying under the wrong subject code. TGT and PGT forms ask you to select a subject from a dropdown — pick the one that matches your degree transcript exactly, not the one you plan to eventually teach. A mismatch here can get your candidature rejected at the scrutiny stage, well after you’ve paid the fee.
- Treating the correction window as optional. It’s a short window, it closes fast, and once it’s shut, a spelling error in your name follows you onto the admit card, the certificate, and every future job application built on that certificate.
- Skipping the Hindi/Sanskrit requirement check. Candidates with strong subject qualifications sometimes discover at the eligibility-verification stage that their Class 10 marksheet doesn’t list Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject — a disqualifying gap that has nothing to do with how well they’d teach.
- Ignoring the old papers until the last two weeks. The subject-specific 60 marks at TGT and PGT level reward pattern recognition — the same topics resurface across years in different phrasing. Working through the previous year papers early, not cramming them in the final week, is what actually moves the needle on the General Studies and subject sections both.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who conducts the HTET 2026 exam?
The Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH), headquartered in Bhiwani, conducts HTET and issues the eligibility certificate for PRT, TGT, and PGT levels.
What is the age limit for HTET 2026?
HTET itself has no fixed upper age limit to appear, since it’s an eligibility test rather than a recruitment exam. Age caps apply later, when you use the certificate to apply for an actual teaching post.
Can candidates from other states apply for HTET?
Yes. HTET isn’t restricted to Haryana-domicile candidates, though Haryana-domicile SC, BC, and PH candidates get fee concessions and relaxed qualifying marks that candidates from other states don’t.
What is the validity of the HTET certificate?
Lifetime, under current BSEH policy. Once you qualify at a level, you don’t need to reappear for that level again.
Is HTET 2026 result out?
No. The 4 July 2026 PGT paper that was conducted is under review following irregularity allegations, and BSEH has confirmed a fresh, board-managed exam for all three levels on 21–22 November 2026. No HTET 2026 result has been declared at the time of writing.
What exactly happened with the HTET 2026 paper leak controversy?
On 6 July 2026, an MP alleged broken seals, mismatched OMR serial numbers, and wrongly distributed question papers at some PGT centres from the 4 July exam. BSEH denied the exam was compromised but invited formal objections, and later confirmed a fresh exam date of 21-22 November 2026.
How can I download the HTET 2026 admit card?
Once released — expected around 17 November 2026 — the admit card will be available on bseh.org.in and htet.eapplynow.com using your registration number and date of birth. Full steps are on our HTET 2026 Admit Card page.
What are the HTET 2026 qualifying marks?
60% (90 out of 150) for general category candidates. Haryana-domicile SC and PH candidates qualify at 55% (82 marks), with a 5% relaxation applying more broadly to SC, BC, and PH candidates of Haryana domicile.
Is there negative marking in HTET 2026?
No. Every level awards 1 mark per correct answer with no deduction for wrong answers, so it’s safe to attempt all 150 questions.
This page is updated as soon as BSEH confirms a new date, releases the admit card, or publishes the answer key — bookmark it rather than a downloaded PDF, since PDFs don’t update themselves. For anything not covered here, bseh.org.in is the only source that overrides what’s written on this page.
