HTET PGT Hindi Syllabus 2026 Subject-Wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern & Eligibility
PGT Hindi candidates often carry over their TGT-level preparation instincts, but the subject-specific section changes meaningfully at this level — the prescribed texts shift from the Basant series to क्षितिज, कृतिका, आरोह and वितान (the standard Class 11-12 NCERT-pattern Hindi textbooks), and entirely new prose genres appear, including रेडियो नाटक (radio drama) and हिन्दी पत्रकारिता (Hindi journalism), that TGT Hindi doesn’t touch.
This guide covers the HTET PGT Hindi syllabus exactly as BSEH has structured it, along with the exam weightage and the eligibility conditions for this paper.

HTET PGT (Child Development, Languages, General Studies) Common Syllabus
These three sections are identical across every PGT subject and make up 90 of the 150 marks and go noticeably deeper than their TGT equivalents.
Child Development and Pedagogy
Covers the psychology of teaching and learning for the 14-17 age group. Alongside the standard ground — development and its relationship with learning, heredity and environment, socialisation, and the perspectives of Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky — the PGT syllabus specifically adds Freud’s Psychosexual Development Theory, Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development, and Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, none of which appear at TGT level. It also covers inclusive education, the construct of intelligence, and how children think, learn and make errors in the learning process.
Languages — Hindi and English
Each carries 15 marks: one unseen passage tested for comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability, combined with the pedagogy of language development, relevant to the 14-17 age group. This common Language I (Hindi) section is separate from, and far lighter than, the subject-specific Hindi section below.
General Studies — Haryana GK, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude
Haryana GK (10 marks) covers state history, current affairs, geography and welfare schemes. Reasoning (10 marks) spans verbal and non-verbal types. Quantitative Aptitude (10 marks) covers number systems, percentages, interest, mensuration and data representation.
HTET PGT Hindi: Subject-Specific Syllabus
BSEH organises this 60-mark section into three parts.
हिन्दी भाषा एवं साहित्य (Hindi Language and Literature)
This part covers the origin and development of the Hindi language, a general introduction to Hindi and its dialects, the methods of writing Hindi literary history, historians of that history, and the periodisation and naming of literary eras. It covers the beginning of Hindi literature and the tendency-based history of its different periods, the major poetic traditions (काव्यधाराएं), representative poets, their works and characteristics, and the origin and development of Hindi prose along with its different genres.
पाठ्यक्रम में संकलित रचनाओं की जानकारी (Prescribed Textbook Content)
Questions based on the poetry and prose compiled in क्षितिज, कृतिका, आरोह and वितान — the काव्य-सौंदर्य (poetic beauty, covering both भाव and कला पक्ष) of the prescribed poems, and the content, writers, subject matter, ideas, sensitivity and language of the prescribed prose pieces.
This part also covers an introduction to the prose genres included in the syllabus and introductory knowledge of major literary personalities and their craft, along with कहानी का नाट्य रूपांतरण (dramatic adaptation of stories), रेडियो नाटक (radio drama), and the various dimensions of हिन्दी पत्रकारिता (Hindi journalism). It closes with पर्यायवाची, विलोम, अनेकार्थक words and one-word substitutions for phrases, drawn from the prescribed syllabus.

Questions based on शब्दशक्तियों के भेद (the types of word-power/shabda-shakti) and examples. काव्य हेतु, काव्य-गुण, काव्य-दोष and काव्य रीतियाँ (the causes, qualities, defects and styles of poetry). Figures of speech with their types — श्लेष, यमक, दीपक, अनुप्रास (with its sub-types), भ्रांतिमान, विरोधाभास, उत्प्रेक्षा, संदेह and मानवीकरण.
Metrical forms (छंद): दोहा, रोला, सोरठा, चौपाई, मालिनी, वसन्ततिलका, गीतिका, हरिगीतिका, कवित्त, सवैया and वंशस्थ. Rasa — its nature, components and रस-निष्पत्ति (the process by which rasa is realised). The nature and analysis of काव्य रीति (poetic style).

Compared to the TGT Hindi syllabus, PGT adds radio drama, journalism and letter writing as distinct testable areas and shifts the figures-of-speech and metre lists to a noticeably longer set — both signs that this paper expects a more complete literary and grammatical toolkit than the TGT-level equivalent.
