HTET TGT Physical Education Syllabus 2026 Subject-wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Eligibility
The TGT Physical Education paper has one of the more unusual eligibility structures in the whole HTET framework. It is one of the very few TGT papers which do not have any graduation-subject or subject-combination condition at all. But the 60-mark subject paper is itself dense, covering anatomy, biomechanics, sports psychology, yoga, sports management and training theory, so candidates whose B.P.Ed. focused heavily on coaching practice sometimes under-revise the theory-heavy portions.

Common Syllabus for HTET TGT (Child Development, Languages, General Studies)
These three sections are common to all the TGT subjects and carry 90 marks out of 150.
Child Development and Pedagogy
Covers the psychology of teaching and learning for the 11-16 age group — development and its relationship with learning, the influence of heredity and environment, socialisation, and the perspectives of Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky. It also includes child-centred education, the construct of intelligence, gender as a social construct, individual learner differences, Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), inclusive education, and how children think, learn and make errors in the learning process.
Languages — Hindi and English
Each carries 15 marks: one unseen passage tested for comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability, combined with the pedagogy of language development, acquisition and the use of multilingual classroom resources.
General Studies — Haryana GK, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude
Haryana GK (10 marks) covers state history, current affairs, geography and welfare schemes. Reasoning (10 marks) spans verbal and non-verbal types. Quantitative Aptitude (10 marks) covers number systems, percentages, interest, mensuration and data representation.
HTET TGT Physical Education: Subject-Specific Syllabus
The 60-mark subject-specific section spans foundational theory, biological and biomechanical sciences, sports psychology, yoga, and sports management and training.
Foundations, History and Biological Basis
The meaning, definition, aim, objective and importance of Physical Education. The history of Physical Education in India across the pre- and post-Independence eras, as well as Physical Education in Ancient Greece, Rome, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Russia.
The biological basis of Physical Education covers growth and development, heredity and environment, body types, personality classification (per Kretschmer’s and Sheldon’s systems), and the dimensions of personality.
Health, Anatomy and Physiology
Health and hygiene, balanced diet and nutrition, health-related fitness, obesity and its management, and first aid. Communicable diseases — their causes and prevention. The School Health Programme and personal hygiene, sports injuries and their prevention, postural deformities, a basic understanding of sports medicine, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and physical fitness and wellness.
Anatomy and physiology covers the meaning and definition of both fields, along with the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory, blood circulatory, skeletal, muscular, endocrine, digestive, nervous (including neurotransmission) and excretory systems.
Biomechanics, Psychology and Sociology in Sports
Ergogenic aids, doping and anti-doping, and the factors influencing sports performance. Kinesiology and biomechanics — joints and their movements, levers, the muscular analysis of motor movement, the laws of motion, and the principles of equilibrium and force, applied to the muscular analysis of specific sports activities as well as fundamental movements like running, jumping, throwing, pulling and pushing.
Psychology and sociology in sports covers the learning process, theories and laws of learning, transfer of learning, internal and external motivation, the psychological factors affecting performance, leadership, and the theories and principles of recreation across different age groups.
Yoga Education
The history of yoga, its meaning, aim and objective. Ashtanga Yoga — its meaning and various components, Surya Namaskar and its benefits, pranayama types and benefits, and the Shuddhi Kriyas (Neti, Dhoti, Basti). This part closes with the role of yoga in daily life and as a preventive measure against lifestyle diseases.
Test, Measurement, Sports Management and Training
Test measurement and evaluation, including the measurement of athletics (track and field events). Major and minor games, the rules and regulations of sports, sports terminology, sports current affairs, sports federations, national and international games (including the Olympic movement), cups, trophies, stadiums and tournaments — along with the Khelo India and Fit India movements.
Sports management covers the principles of management, the organisation and functions of sports bodies, intramural and extramural activities, and the management of infrastructure, equipment, finance and personnel. Sports training covers its core concepts and principles, periodisation, training methods for developing different motor qualities, technical and tactical preparation, short- and long-term training programmes, the role of media in sports, computer applications in Physical Education, and National Sports Awards — plus subject-related pedagogy.

This is a broad syllabus covering five different theoretical areas so it’s worth treating Anatomy/Physiology and Biomechanics as a separate revision block to Sports Management/Training – the two require quite different types of preparation and candidates with strong coaching backgrounds sometimes assume the practical knowledge covers the theory automatically.
Who Is Eligible for HTET TGT Physical Education? Qualification Details
You need to satisfy both of the following:
- Bachelor of Physical Education (B. P. Ed.) or Diploma in Physical Education (D. P. Ed.) or equivalent from a recognised university.
- Hindi or Sanskrit as subject in Matric, or Hindi as subject in higher education.
This is a far simpler eligibility structure than most other TGT papers — no graduation-subject condition, no Honours requirement, no subject-combination rule. The basic requirement is B.P.Ed. or D.P.Ed. from a recognised university. This also means that this course does not require a B.Ed. separately like the other TGT Subjects because B.P.Ed./D.P.Ed. is the professional teaching qualification for this subject.
Relaxation for SC, BC and differently-abled candidates
SC, BC, and candidates with disabilities receive a 5% relaxation when the minimum qualifying score is 50%, making it 47.5%. According to the Supreme Court’s 2011 decision in P.V. Indiresan v. Union of India, where the minimum is 45%, the relaxed figure is 42.75%.
A qualification detail worth checking twice
Only teacher-education diplomas or degrees recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) will be considered. However, for the Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed. (Special Education) routes, you need to be recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi — this is only if you are qualifying through a special-education-related route and not the normal B.P.Ed./D.P.Ed. route.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a separate B.Ed. required for TGT Physical Education alongside B.P.Ed. or D.P.Ed.?
No. The eligibility criterion clearly states that a Bachelor of Physical Education or Diploma in Physical Education (or equivalent) from a recognised university is required – this is the professional qualification for this subject; most other TGT papers require a B.Ed separately.
Is there a subject-combination requirement for TGT Physical Education like there is for Science or Social Studies?
No. This is one of the simplest TGT eligibility patterns — only the B.P.Ed/D.P.Ed qualification + the usual Hindi/Sanskrit language condition.
Does the subject-specific syllabus focus more on practical sports knowledge or theory?
It’s very theoretical for exam purposes – anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, yoga and sports management all come up as testable areas, not just applied coaching skills.
Is Yoga Education a separate major topic, or a minor subtopic?
It’s treated as its own distinct section in BSEH’s syllabus structure, covering yoga’s history, Ashtanga Yoga, pranayama and the Shuddhi Kriyas — not folded into general health and fitness.
Given the wide range of distinct scientific and management domains addressed in this paper, it will be more beneficial to create separate revision notes for Anatomy/Physiology, Biomechanics, Sports Psychology, Yoga and Sports Management/Training rather than one combined “Physical Education” study pass.
