HTET TGT Science Syllabus 2026 Subject-wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Eligibility

HTET TGT Science Syllabus 2026 Subject-wise Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Eligibility

TGT Science seems simple on paper — it’s the subject you are already B.Sc. in. But the problem arises when you actually open the syllabus: BSEH tests physics, chemistry and biology together in one 60-mark block, taken from the Haryana Board syllabus of Class 6-10, which is not the same syllabus most B.Sc. courses are built upon. Even the best physics graduate can lose marks in simple Class 9 biology questions just because that chapter was never revised.

This guide contains the HTET TGT Science paper as per BSEH – the exam weightage, specific eligibility for this paper and the entire list of topics of all the three science streams.

HTET TGT Science Exam Pattern and Weightage 2026

The paper will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions of 150 marks. The duration of the paper will be 2.5 hours. Each question will be worth 1 mark. There will not be negative marking.

SectionNumber of MCQsMarks
Child Development and Pedagogy3030

Qualifying marks:

  • General category candidates: 60% (90 marks)
  • SC and differently-abled candidates of Haryana domicile: 55% (82 marks)
  • SC and differently-abled candidates from other states: 60% (90 marks)

The topics are according to the syllabus prescribed by the Department of Education, Government of Haryana, for Class VI to X, but the standard of difficulty may be up to the senior secondary level. This means that in science in particular, numerical problems in physics (motion, work-energy, electricity) can be pitched quite a bit harder than the textbook examples they’re based on.

Common Syllabus for HTET TGT (Child Development, Languages, General Studies)

These three sections are identical across every TGT paper and together make up 90 of the 150 marks.

Child Development and Pedagogy

Centres on the psychology of teaching and learning for the 11-16 age group:

  • Concept of development and its relationship with learning; principles of child development; heredity and environment
  • Socialisation processes, and the critical perspectives of Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky
  • Child-centred and progressive education; the construct of intelligence and multi-dimensional intelligence
  • Gender as a social construct and individual differences based on language, caste, gender, community and religion
  • Assessment for learning versus assessment of learning; Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)
  • Inclusive education and addressing learners with learning difficulties or special talents
  • How children think, learn and make errors as part of the learning process; cognition, emotion and motivation in learning

Languages — Hindi and English

Each carries 15 marks with an identical format: one unseen passage tested for comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability, combined with the pedagogy of language development — acquisition theory, the role of listening and speaking, teaching language in a diverse classroom, and the use of textbooks and multilingual resources.

General Studies — Haryana GK, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude

Haryana GK (10 marks) draws on the state’s history, current affairs, geography, culture and welfare schemes. Reasoning (10 marks) spans verbal and non-verbal types — analogies, classification, series, coding-decoding, Venn diagrams and embedded figures. Quantitative Aptitude (10 marks) covers number systems, percentages, interest, time-work, algebraic identities, mensuration and data representation.

HTET TGT Science: Subject-Specific Syllabus

The Science section, of 60 marks, draws almost equally from Chemistry, Biology and Physics, each having its own pedagogy component.

Chemistry

Sorting materials and groups — properties, appearance, hardness, solubility and transparency. Separation of substances — filtration, evaporation, sedimentation, sieving and winnowing. Acids, bases and salts, and neutralisation in everyday life. Physical and chemical changes, including rusting and crystallisation. Coal and petroleum, and the limits of natural resources. Combustion and flame — types, structure and fuel efficiency.

Matter in our surroundings — its physical nature, states, and how it changes state. Is matter around us pure — mixtures, solutions and separation techniques. Atoms and molecules — the laws of chemical combination, mole concept and molecular mass. Structure of the atom — charged particles, electron distribution, valency, and atomic and mass number. Chemical equations and reactions, including oxidation in everyday life. Metals and non-metals — their physical and chemical properties, the reactivity series, extraction and corrosion. Carbon and its compounds — covalent bonding, ethanol, ethanoic acid, soaps and detergents — plus subject-related pedagogy.

Biology

The fundamental unit of life — cell structure, organisation and cell division. The world of the living — plant and animal forms, functions and tissues. Diversity in living organisms and their classification. Life processes — nutrition, respiration, transportation and excretion, including human systems. Body movement and coordination in animals and plants.

Reproduction in organisms — asexual and sexual modes, reproductive health, adolescence, and heredity and evolution. Disease — types, causes, agents, treatment and prevention. Weather, climate and adaptation; ecosystems, pollution, biogeochemical cycles and the ozone layer. Animal husbandry, natural resource management, and the conservation of plants and wildlife. Food resources — components, functions, crop production and crop protection. Microorganisms — plus subject-related pedagogy.

Physics

Motion and measurement — types of motion, speed, velocity, acceleration, and distance-time and velocity-time graphs. Force and the laws of motion — balanced and unbalanced forces, friction and its factors. Gravitation — the universal law, free fall, mass and weight, thrust, pressure, buoyancy and Archimedes’ Principle.

Work, energy and power — kinetic and potential energy, and the law of conservation of energy. Sound — production, propagation, characteristics, echo, reverberation, and the range of human hearing. Light — reflection and refraction through mirrors and lenses, image formation, and magnification. The human eye — accommodation, common vision defects (myopia, hypermetropia, presbyopia), dispersion through a prism, and atmospheric refraction phenomena like twinkling stars and the blue sky.

Electricity and circuits — electric current, potential, Ohm’s law, resistance, and the heating and chemical effects of current. Magnetic effects of electric current — field lines, the right-hand thumb rule, Fleming’s left- and right-hand rules, electromagnets and the AC generator — plus subject-related pedagogy.

Who Is Eligible for HTET TGT Science? Qualification Details

TGT Science eligibility checks both your overall degree and the specific subject combination within it. You need to satisfy all of the following:

  1. A bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks in science as an elective or honours subject, combined with science as a teaching subject in one of the following: BTC/JBT/D.Ed./D.El.Ed, or B.Ed./B.Ed. (Special Education) recognised under NCTE norms, or a 4-year B.El.Ed with at least 50% marks in science, or a 4-year integrated BA/B.Ed with at least 50% marks in science.
  2. For a B.Sc., specifically, at least three subjects out of physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, and mathematics. If you hold an honours degree in one of these, you must have also studied the other two in the first and second years and passed both theory and practical papers in all concerned subjects.
  3. Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matric, or Hindi as a subject at a higher education level.

The three-subject combination requirement catches more candidates out than any other part of this paper. Note: A B.Sc. with only physics and chemistry and without a third subject from the approved list is not covered by condition 2 even if the marks in both are top ones.

Relaxation for SC, BC and differently-abled candidates

If the minimum qualifying mark is 50%, SC, BC and differently-abled candidates get 5% relaxation, which means 47.5%. The minimum is 45%, and the relaxed figure is 42.75%, as directed by the Supreme Court in P.V. Indiresan vs Union of India in 2011.

A qualification detail worth checking twice

Eligibility will be on the basis of teacher-education diplomas or degrees recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The exception is the Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed. (Special Education) routes, which require recognition from the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi, instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does TGT Science cover Physics, Chemistry and Biology equally?

Yes, all three streams form the 60-mark subject-specific part. There is no fixed split of marks between all three streams, as BSEH does not publish the same. So no stream can be skipped safely.

Can I apply with a B.Sc. in only two science subjects?

Not a bit. The rule of eligibility is that candidates should have passed a B.Sc. (at least 3 subjects out of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics). So, if you have a two-subject B.Sc. combination, you are not eligible irrespective of your marks.

Is Hindi compulsory for this paper even with an English-medium B.Sc.?

Yes. You need Hindi or Sanskrit separate from Matric or higher education level in Hindi at the higher education level – this is irrespective of your science qualification.

How difficult are the physics numerical questions compared to the Class 9-10 textbook?

The topics stay within the Class 6-10 syllabus, but BSEH states the difficulty standard can go up to senior secondary level, so numerical problems are often pitched harder than the original textbook examples.

This paper is split across 3 science streams – treat physics, chemistry and biology as 3 separate revision blocks, not a single “science” pass. Don’t let a strong background in one stream convince you to skip the others.
